Cape Mentelle

Rare Bordeaux and Burgundian style/quality without the price tag

Five Star Winery – James Halliday
“Cape Mentelle is firing on all cylinders”

“Producer of the Year”
“Winemaker of the Year – Rob Mann”
The Western Australian Wine Guide 2009

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW said; “…for me it’s the Chardonnays that threaten to challenge the greatest in the world…”

James Halliday “Bracket 3 (by far the strongest): a Margaret River trifecta of Moss Wood, Cape Mentelle and Woodlands, pushing Château Léoville Las Cases and Château Margaux out of contention.”

We are pleased to offer you a selection of some of the very best wines and vintages ever made from one of Australia’s greatest wineries – Cape Mentelle.  What impresses us most is not simply the outstanding quality of each of these wines, or even the remarkable value for money that they represent compared to more recently hyped ‘cult’ examples, but that a single producer can craft such incredible wines across several different grape varieties and styles. As a group they represent one of the finest offerings from any winery in the southern hemisphere.

FWDC Cellar Journal – 5 Astonishingly Great and Rare Cellar Wines from France

Posted by Andie on March 22, 2011. Category: Wine News — Tags: ,

Hi to all our valued cellar and selected premium wine customers,

This week – a quintet of astonishingly great cellar wines from France – very limited availability.

The three greatest red wines in France, and indeed the world are First Growth Bordeaux, Grand Cru Burgundy and great Syrah from Hermitage or Cote Rotie.  No cellar is complete without some representatives of the “Holy Trinity” of great French reds.

This week we have selected some of the finest examples ever made of these classic reds.  From 2000 Haut Brion, a classic vintage of “the original First Growth”; 2006 Guigal Ex Voto Ermitage, a special luxury Hermitage made only in exceptional years by the leading producer in the northern Rhone; and two Grand Cru Burgundies from exceptional domaines.

These wines have all been carefully cellared by us for a few years and range from five to eleven years old already, but will reward far, far more patient cellaring.

While waiting for these wines to mature, we have also selected two fabulous Burgundy values to enjoy in the short to medium term.  A village Chambolle Musigny from one of Burgundy’s finest domaines, and a wonderful Premier Cru white Burgundy from a fantastic producer in a lesser-known village.

As a group these wines represent the pinnacle of red wine in the world.  Unfortunately we only have tiny quantities of each, which we’re offering on a first response basis. Don’t miss out on collecting these carefully-selected, classic, cellar-aged great wines of France

PEGASUS BAY

Rally around Canterbury’s Flagship Winery

Hi from Jeff,

As Kiwis, we all want to help our Cantabrian community as much as we can as they start a long process to recovery. We have all done some amazing fundraising and long may those much needed donations continue.

However there is another very important way we need to help Canterbury get back on its feet; where possible we should do our utmost to support their business community.

This week the family and team at FWDC have chosen to rally our customers and all of our resources in behind supporting Canterbury’s flagship winery “Pegasus Bay” for one week.

FWDC Cellar Journal – 5 New Classics – Great Terroir Wines Of New Zealand

Posted by Andie on March 15, 2011. Category: Cellar Journal Exclusive — Tags: , , ,

Essential buying for any serious collector!

New Zealand wine has come a long way since the first French varieties were seriously planted in the late 1960’s and the South Island pioneered in the early 1970’s. Since then we’ve become world famous for Sauvignon Blanc, and respected among international critics for our aromatic whites and Pinot Noir. As Lisa Perotti Brown MW said in her report on New Zealand wine in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate last year; “When I compared recent vintages against even the icons of the past, it was tangible that New Zealand’s wines have advanced at an incredible pace.”

The most exciting advance in the past ten years has been the quest for terroir. Our best winemakers are searching for, discovering and making wine from special, specific sites that result in wines of wonderful quality and special character.
