New Zealand’s
Greatest Red Wines

Hi From Matt

I’m thrilled to present my selection of New Zealand’s greatest red wines.

Jeff, the buying team, and I sat down to come up with a shortlist of New Zealand’s top reds, then tasted them to select the very finest current vintages of Pinot Noir, Bordeaux-style red and Syrah in the country.  Each wine that we selected has an illustrious history of critical acclaim, world-class quality and impressive longevity.  Additionally, they are all best-ever releases of these three classic labels,  being from outstanding vintages and with the advantage of vine-age and winemaker experience.

“This is the best-value Chianti Classico Riserva I’ve tried, It’s a wine that truly sings”
Matt Deller, FWDC Wine Programme Director

“…a fleshy, radiant wine graced with expressive dark red fruit…baby Tignanello”
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

Hi From Matt

It’s with great pleasure that I am able to offer you one of the few six-packs allocated to New Zealand of Marchesi Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva 2007.

At our recent Antinori Dinner at Toto Restaurant, this wine was the highlight for me.  As a huge fan of really good Chianti, this is the best value example I’ve tried and I’ve personally cornered a six-pack for home which I look forward to enjoying over winter.  What I love about top Chianti Classico Riserva is that it delivers wonderful deep cherry aromas, scintillating fragrance with a plush, deeply flavoured palate.  One of the most satisfying styles in the world of wine, it delivers similar pleasure to the best Pinot Noirs of Martinborough, Central Otago and north Canterbury.

2012 Vintage Review: Jeff’s spoken with leading winemakers all around NZ

Posted by Tracey on July 5, 2012. Category: Jeff's Column,Wine News

Hi from Jeff,

There has been much conjecture surrounding the 2012 NZ wine vintage; we’re all amateur weather experts and a little information as we all know is a dangerous thing. As I do annually around this time I have spoken to leading winemakers/viticulturists from the bottom to the top of the country covering nine key regions and secured a balanced and expert body of opinion on the overall quality of the 2012 vintage by region. As a result FWDC customers will be the most accurately informed wine lovers in NZ; empowered to make quality wine buying decisions and to not miss out on some excellent wines lost in vintage translation. Cheers Jeff
