“Global Top Ten Syrah”
From 650 wines tasted up to $700 per bottle

Hi from Matt

I’m pleased to offer you the opportunity to secure the only New Zealand Syrah to be named in the “Global Top Ten” in “The World’s Greatest Syrah & Shiraz Challenge”; Bilancia ‘La Collina’ Syrah 2009.

The tasting was judged by a panel of 16 experienced judges comparing more than 650 wines from all over the world. The star-studded list of entries brought together the best of Syrah and Shiraz wines with a price list that extended up to $700 a bottle.

Amongst those tasted and judged were prestigious Rhone labels including Guigal d’Ampuis Cote-Rotie, Chapoutier l’Ermite Hermitage, and Jaboulet la Chapelle, alongside Australian icons including Penfolds Grange, Henschke Hill of Grace, and Wolf Blass Platinum Label.

This recognition for a New Zealand Syrah supports Matthew Jukes and Tyson Stelzer’s assertion in the ‘Taste Food & Wine’ book; “La Collina is the greatest Syrah to ever come out of New Zealand, and it single-handedly positions this country, for the first time among the great Shiraz producers of the world.”

For collectors, ‘La Collina’ is one of New Zealand most significant red wines.  Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate says; “Warren Gibson is one of Hawkes Bay’s most thoughtful, artisan producers. His Collina Syrah is one of New Zealand’s finest and I suspect will be one of its most long-lived wines.”

The ‘La Collina’ vineyard is a steep, terraced and incline planted, Côte-Rôtie-like, hillside vineyard on northern facing slopes. The hillside is protected from the cooling effects of the southerly and south-westerly winds and during the growing season is bathed in sunshine.  These hillside vines yield less than one bottle per vine, resulting in a Syrah of incredible depth and concentration.

We have just 30 six-packs of this outstanding collector’s red, to secure your share, please complete the order form below and reply to wine@finewinedelivery.co.nz

FWDC Special Price $89.99 per bottle

Five Stars Bob Campbell MW
“Consistently one of the country’s best examples of Syrah.”

Five Stars Michael Cooper
“A majestic red, it ranks among the country’s very finest Syrahs… Powerful, with layers of flavour, great harmony and a sense of latent power, it should flourish for a decade.”

Five Stars Cuisine Magazine
“Commonly regarded as New Zealand syrah royalty, La Collina is the Bilancia label’s top syrah. It is grown on a sloping, terraced vineyard (la collina means the hill) on the northern flank of Roy’s Hill, near the Gimblett Gravels. Blackberry, spice and charry oak notes provide charming flavours, and the assertive tannic grip is a real feature.”
