Jeff, the buying team, and I sat down to come up with a shortlist of New Zealand’s top reds, then tasted them to select the very finest current vintages of Pinot Noir, Bordeaux-style red and Syrah in the country.  Each wine that we selected has an illustrious history of critical acclaim, world-class quality and impressive longevity.  Additionally, they are all best-ever releases of these three classic labels,  being from outstanding vintages and with the advantage of vine-age and winemaker experience.

This is one of the most impressive Bordeaux-style reds I’ve ever tasted from this country, it tastes more like top St Emilion Grand Cru Classe than any other New Zealand red I’ve tried.  At six years old, it’s just beginning to reveal its considerable charms.  I enjoyed a bottle with roast beef over the weekend and it was one of the most satisfying New Zealand red wine experiences I’ve ever enjoyed.
